1879. NEW ZEALAND.

PASTORAL LEASES IN LAND DISTRICT OF CANTERBURY (RETURN OF HOLDERS OF, ALPHABETICALLY ARRANGED).

Presented to loth Houses of the General Assembly by Command of His Excellency.

SUMMARY of the LARGER HOLDINGS.

Memo, by Commissioner of Crown Lands. —There is in some cases but a small advance on present rates: this applies to the back country of the Timaru district and the neighbourhood of the Lakes about Mount Cook. In other cases the new rates are three times or five times the present rates : this applies to the Plains and the runs on the eastern seaboard. All previous legislation regulating the rents to be paid for runs in Canterbury have been based on an uniform acreage rate without regard to locality or relative value, and hence the very wide difference between the amount of advance in one case and in another. Laud District of Canterbury. Pursuant to the provisions of " The Land Act, 1877," the Land Board of the Land District of Canterbury gives notice that, subject to the correction for diminished area, as herein provided, the rent to be paid on the Ist day of May, 1880, in respect of each of the under-meutioned pasturage runs within the said land district, will be the amount set forth in the Schedule hereto. The assessment of each run is based on the area thereof as it stood on the Ist January, 1878; and the rent to be paid on the Ist of May, 1880, is the sum named in the second column of the Schedule hereto, less the deduction per acre in respect of such portions thereof as may be sold or reserved between the Ist of January, 1878, and the Ist of May, 1880.
