MIDWIVES PRACTISING IN THE DOMINION (RETURNS RELATIVE TO).
Return ti an Older of the House of Representatives dated the 11th November, 1909. Ordered, "That there be laid before this House a return showing—(l) Tbe number of midwivei qualified by local examinations practising in the Dominion; (2) the number <f midwivea qualified by foreign examinations practising in tbe Dominion ; (3) the number of midwives registered without examination practising in the Dominion ; (4) the number of mi wives qualified by local examinations annually since passing of " The Midwives Act, 1904 " ; and (5) the number of midwives capable, under existing means of instruction, of being qualified by local examinations annually."—(Mr. Reed.) Betukn. 1. Number of midwives qualified by local examinations practising in the Dominion : — (a.) Trained in a maternity hospital: 93. (b.) Untrained women who had neglected to register when "The Midwives Act, 1904," came into force, and were allowed to do so on passing a simple practical examination : 128. 2. Number of midwives qualified by foreign examinations practising in the Dominion : 141. 3. Number of midwives registered without examination practising in the Dominion : 742. 4.
