THE STATE FORESTS ACT, 1908 (PROPOSAL TO WITHDRAW 300 ACRES IN BLOCKS V AND VI, PENCARROW SURVEY DISTRICT, WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT, FROM RESERVATION UNDER).

Laid before Parliament in accordance with Section 28 of the State Forests Act, 1908. Land proposed to hk withdrawn prom State Forest Reservation. Description. All that area in the Wellington Land District, containing approximately 300 acres, situated in Blocks V and VI, Pencarrrow Survey District, as ohe same is delineated on the accompanying lithograph. Reason for I'mpnsed Withdrawal. The holder of the adjoining hind (Orongorongo Block) is desirous of erecting a fence between Ins land and the State Forest Reserve. The only practicable fencing-line is along the leading spur as shown on the lithograph, which involves an exchange of about equal areas of the reserve for portion of the Orongorongo Block. Neither portion has real forest upon it, but is covered with scrub, and the values are approximately equal. The exchange will be of advantage to the Crown, as the fence when erected will keep stock from trespassing on the forest reserve. Value of the laud. 10s. per acre : total value ; £150. Altitude. —From 400 ft. to 3,000 ft. above sea-level. Timber. —The bush consists of mountain birch, and contains no timber of an} value for milling purposes. The land is not suitable for settlement, being rough and of poor quality. Required for exchange purposes as explained above. The area is not required for water-conservation purposes, owing to its situation near the coast.
