ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Friday, the 2nd Day of August, 1929. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all matters pertaining to agricultural and pastoral industries and stock ; with power to confer and sit together with any similar Committee which may be appointed by the Legislative Council, and to agree to a joint or separate report; the Committee to have power to call for persons, papers, and records ; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. Hall, Mr. Hawke, Sir George Hunter, Mr. Kyle, Mr. Langstone, Mr. Lye, Mr. Macpherson, Mr. Martin, Mr. Poison, and the mover." —(Hon. Mr. Forbes.) Monday, the 21st Day of October, 1929. Ordered, " That the Slaughtering and Inspection Bill be referred to the Agricultural and Pastoral Industries and Stock Committee." —(Hon. Mr. Forbes.) Extract from the Journals of the Legislative Council. Friday, the 30th Day of August, 1929. Ordered, " That the question of the admission of Alsatian dogs into the Dominion, and the possibility of their becoming a menace to sheep-farmers and others, be referred to the Joint Agricultural and Pastoral Committee for consideration and report."—(Hon. REPORTS. No. 247. —Petition of Charles Leary, of Pohonui. Praying for compensation for alleged loss of lambs. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 2,9 th October, 1929.

No. 330. —-Petition of Ida J. Forbes. Praying for a compassionate allowance in respect of her late husband's services as a Dairy-produce Grader in the Department of Agriculture. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 21st October, 1929.

Slaughtering and Inspection Bill. I have the honour to report that the Committee has taken a considerable amount of evidence on the Slaughtering and Inspection Bill, but wishes to place on record its opinion that it is most desirable that such important measures should be brought down earlier in the session. As there has not been time to fully consider the evidence tendered and to go thoroughly through the clauses of the Bill, the Committee is of the opinion that the Bill should not be allowed to proceed. 7th November, 1929.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Agricultural and Pastoral Industries and Stock Committee desires to express its keen appreciation of the ability and courtesy with which the Chairman, Mr. Lye, has presided over the business of the Committee during the session. It further desires that this resolution shall be recorded in the Minutes of the Committee and be reported to the House. H. S. S. Kyle, 7th November, 1929. A Member of the Committee.

Special Report. T have the honour to report that the Committee desires to record its high appreciation of the valuable services rendered by the Clerk of the Committee, Mr. E. F. Fox. The Committee desires also to record its. opinion that the Committee Clerks are a most useful body of officers, and that the Government should make provision for their permanent employment, in order that their services may be available session after session. 7th November, 1929.

Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Agricultural and Pastoral Industries and Stock Committee, consisting of ten members, has held five meetings during the session, and that the average attendance of members has been six. Two petitions were disposed of, evidence was taken on the Slaughtering and Inspection Bill, and it was duly reported to the House. F. Lye, Chairman. 7th November, 1929.
