No. 358, 1897; and No. 283, 1899. —Petition of Ngawaina Hanikamu and Atiraira Paremata Petitioners claim to be interested in Whakapuaka Block, Nelson District, and they pray that legislation may be passed enabling them to obtain a rehearing, with a view to establishing their rights, and also that the present holders of the land may in the meantime be prevented from selling the same. I am directed to report that the Committee sees no reason why the decision arrived at in 1896 should be altered; it has, therefore, no recommendation to make. 24th July, 1903.

No. 73, 1902.—Petition of Nepe Patehau and 40 Others. (No. 3.) Petitioners pray for inclusion in the certificate of title to Te Pae-o-Turawaru No. 2 Block, near Te Aroha. They allege that the persons already in the same are merely there as trustees. I am directed to report that, as the petitioners still have a remedy open to them under subsection (10) of section 14 of " The Native Land Court Act, 1904," the Committee has no recommendation to make.

No. 143, 1903. —Petition of Heni te Rau (Mrs. Jane Brown), of Kohimarama, Auckland. Petitioner prays that a reserve set aside for the Ngatimutunga hapu in the Taranaki District may be exempted from the operation of the West Coast (North Island) Settlements Reserves Act, and the land handed over for the owners to manage for themselves. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends—, (1.) That the Government should instruct the Public Trustee to conserve the interests of the Natives occupying the land ; (2.) That the balance of the reserve, beyond that now occupied by the petitioners' hapu, - should be granted as intended in the original award ; and (3.) That the charges for administration by the Public Trustee under the West Coast Settlements Reserves Acts should be reduced. 24th July, 1903.

No. 104, 1902.—Petition of Rina te Oka. Petitioner complains that the apportionment of the Turanganui Blocks, near Martinborough, was not carried out by the Native Land Court according to a mutual agreement made by the owners, and prays for readjustment. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 29th July, 1903.
