SLY-GROG SELLING IN THE RING-COUNTRY (PARTICULARS AS REGARDS PROSECUTIONS AND CONVICTIONS FOR).
Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated Tuesday, 24th day of November, 1903. Ordered, "That there be laid before this House a return showing,—(l) The number of prosecutions for sly-grog selling that have been instituted against persons in what is known as the King-country during each year from 1895 to the 31st October, 1903 ; (2) the number of convictions secured against such persons during the years aforesaid ; (3) the average amount of fines imposed ; (4) the average amount of fines paid ; (5) the number of persons who served a term or terms of imprisonment in default of payment of fines ; and (6) the number of persons who were committed to prison without the option of fines."—(Mr. E. G. Allen).
