TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES ON RAILWAY AND ROAD WORKS ON 1st AUGUST, 1912, AND 10th OCTOBER, 1912.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 17th October, 1912. Ordered, "That there be laid before this House a return showing—(!) The total number of men (independent of permanent officials) employed on road and railway works under the Public Works Dapartment en Ist August, 1912, and the number employed on the 10th October. 1912; and (2) if any reduction in number has taken place, the work upon which such reduction has been made ar.d the district in wh'ch it is situated."—(Mr. Russell.) Return showing (1) the Total Numbek of Men (independent of Permanent Officials] employed on Eoad and Railway Works under the Public Works Department on Ist August, 1912, and the Numbeb employed on lOch October, 1912 ; and (2) the Works on which a Reduction has been made, and the District in which it is situated. 1.
