No. 183.—Petition of Norah Williamson, of Christchurch, Widow. Praying for compensation for the death of her husband by accident allegedly arising out of and in the course of his employment by the Marine Department. I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) committee has carefully considered and recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for Favourable consideration, and the Committee desires to express the opinion that the petitioner should he granted a reasonable compassionate allowance. 13th December, 1933.

No. 60.—Petition of Hannah Powell, of Wellington, Widow. Praying tor a compassionate allowance or a pension on account of her late husband's war service. I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 13th December, 1933.

No. 175.—Petition of D. Munro, of 264 Hereford Street, Christchurch. Praying for reinstatement in the Railway Service or payment of superannuation or compensation. I haw the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) Committee has carefully considered this petition and has no recommendation to make. J 3th December, 1933.

No. 01.—Petition of E. J. Walker and 2,410 Others, of Timaru. Praying tor an increase in the funds allocated to Timaru by the Unemployment Board and for the abolition of the " stand-down " week. 1 Lave the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) Committee has carefully considered this petition, but, as the subject-matter of the petition is one of poliev. the Committee lias no recommendation to make. 13th December, 1933.

No. 229. —Petition of A. Renall and 3 Others, of Masterton. Praying that the refusal of the Transport Licensing Authority to grant them a passenger-service license be investigated. 1 have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) Committee has carefully considered this petition, but, as the petitioners have not exhausted their legal remedies, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 13th December, 1933.

No. 189—Petition of F. W. Simmonds, of Wellington, Journalist. Praying thai a Committee or Commission be appointed by Parliament to inquire into the Electrical Communications Branches of the Post and Telegraph Department with a view to minimizing losses alleged to be now incurred. I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) Committee has carefully considered this petition, but, as the subject-matter of the petition is one affecting policy, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 13th December, 1933.

No. 234.—Petition of T. F. Simpson, of Wadestown, Wellington. Praying tor compensation or other relief for loss of property alleged to have been wrongly seized under a warrant to distrain. I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) Committee has carefully considered this petition, but, as the petitioner has further legal remedies which have not been exhausted, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 13th December, 1933.

No. 53/1932-33.—Petition of N. G. Perkins, of Westport. Praying for reappointment as a chemist in the New Zealand Railways Department, or other suitable employment. I have the honour to repori thai the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) Committee has carefully considered the above-mentioned petition, and has no recommendation to make 13th December, 1933.

No. 2!) 1/1932-33.—Petition of Mary A. Nutt, of Millerton. Praying for a compassionate allowance in respect of the death of her son. 1 have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementay) Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. 13th December, 1933.

No. 196.—Petition of A. Teale, of Christchurch. Praying tor compensation for an injury alleged to have been sustained while employed by the Railway Department. I have the honour to report that, owing to the recent death of the petitioner, the Committee has not considered this petition and, for that reason, has no recommendation to make 20th December, 1933.

No. 38. —Petition of the New Zealand Railway Officers' Institute (Inc.), of Wellington. Praying for amendment of the National Expenditure Adjustment Act, 1932, to provide for reduction in rentals of Railway dwellinghouses, or that tenants may be permitted to vacate the dwellings occupied by them. 1 have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for favourable consideration in respect of the first part of the prayer of the petition. 20th December, 1933.

No. 58. —Petition of A. J. Mason, of Christchurch. Praying for compensation for legal expenses incurred on a second trial as a result of retrospective legislation. I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 20th December, 1933.

No. 211.—Petition of P. Maloney, of Wellington. Praying for redress by having a certain record expunged from the Police Gazelle and the Police Department files, and for recompense for loss allegedly-sustained by him. 1 haV(, ,h,, honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementray) Committee has carefully considered tins petition, and has no recommendation to make. Special Report. I have the honour to repori thai at its final meeting the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) Committee unanimously passed the following resolution: ■'That this Committee place on record its high appreciation of the care and ability with which the Chairman, Mr. ('. 11. Clinkard, has conducted the business of the Committee, and direct that this resolution be reported to the House." J. W. Munro, A Member of the Committee. 20th December, 1933.

Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z (Supplementary) Committee, appointed on the 7th day of December, 1933, and consisting of ten members, has held six meetings with an average attendance of seven members. Eighteen petitions were referred to the Committee. Five of these were, for various reasons, held over, while thirteen were heard and reported on to the House. Cecil H.
