ORDERS OF REFERENCE.

Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Thursday, the llth Day ov July, 1940. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all Bills and other matters relating to mining which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Barclay, Mr. Bodkin, Mr. Dcnham, Mr. Goosman, Mr. Frost, Hon. Mr. Lee Martin, Mr. Moncur, Mr. O'Brien, Mr. Thorn, and the Mover."—(Right Hon. Mr. Pkasjsk, for Hon. Mr. Webb.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1939 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fbasee.) Ordered, " That during the present session all Select Committees appointed by the House have leave to sit on days on which the House is not sitting, provided that when it is proposed to sit on any such day at least three days' notice shall be given to each member of the Committee of the date of the sitting."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fbaseb.) Wednesday, the 28th Day ot August, 1940. Ordered, " That the Statutes Amendment Bill be referred to the Goldfields and Mines Committee in order to consider clauses 6, 31 to 37 inclusive, and 57 (relating to coal-mines, mining, and West-land and Nelson Coalfields Administration).'' —(Eight Hon. Mr. Fbaser.) Ordered, " That the Goldfields and Mines Committee have leave to sit during the present sitting of the House."— (Mr. O'Bbien.)

REPORT.

Statutes Amendment Bill. The Goldfields and Mines Committee has carefully considered the Statutes Amendment Bill, and recommends that, so far as it affects coal-mines and mining, as referred to in clauses 6, 31 to 37, and 57, the Bill be allowed to proceed with the amendments to clause 6 as shown in the copy of the Bill hereto attached. 28th August, 1940.
